A few hours before speaking at the Univei'sity of Toledo on Tuesday night, Brown toured the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter in Toledo to listen to the stories of victims. "I don't ask too many questions," she said before visiting the shelter.

"If they want to talk, they will I'm not a therapist. I need to educate myself. I'm still learning." In the months following the June 12 murders of Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Americans heard plenty of stories some still unconfirmed about O.J. Simpson's abuse of his wife. Simpson trial-watchers have suggested that domestic violence was the centerpiece issue of the case.

Brown said she learned much more about her sister's marriage after the murders than before, which she said increased her determination to speak out. Akron man sentenced for killing 13-month-old baby AKRON A man has been sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a 13-month-old boy. Judge Mary Spicer on Tuesday sentenced Timothy Ashbee, 18, of Akron. Ashbee was babysitting Alexander Bertison at the time of the beating Dec. 25.

Ashbee was the boyfriend of the child's mother, 18-year-old Michelle Bertison of Barberton. Police alleged that Ashbee beat the boy because he would not stop crying. Bertison left her son with Ashbee early Christmas morning so she could take some stocking sniffers to her father's home. Coroner believes deadly chase ended in suicide MARIETTA Washington County Coroner Ken Leopold said it appeared a 16-year-old Akron boy committed suicide while riding in a car being pursued by police. But Leopold said Tuesday that investigators were trying to determine if a hunting rifle could have fired accidentally, killing Eric W.

Knight, when the car crashed into a police cruiser at the end of the chase early Monday. Knight and four other Akron youths were headed for Florida in a stolen car containing stolen guns, money and marijuana when they were clocked at 86 mph on radar on Interstate 77 near Cambridge at about 5:30 a.m. Monday. They tried to outrun State Highway Patrol troopers, reaching more than 100 mph, before troopers forced the car through a roadblock near Marietta, where the tires on the stolen car were deflated with spikes that troopers had placed on the pavement. During that time Knight was shot in the chest and died before medical help arrived.

The other teens told the patrol that Eric had said, "They'll never take me alive," according to Leopold. ML RUNNING till 2.
