If so there are opportunities for you to participate in the 1973 Ohio State Fair. Young and adults alike can make entries in many of the divisions.

I have received four of the six catalogs that outline the areas of participation at the State Fair. They are the Junior Division, Fine Arts Division, Family Arts and Crafts Division, and Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture Division. I should receive the Senior Division and Horse Division catalogs soon. Anyone wishing to enter in any of these areas should review the catalogs in June since entry deadlines are either July 1 or July 15 depending on the division. Catalogues may be obtained by writing the Ohio State Fair, Columbus, Ohio 43211 stating which catalogue you desire.

Several will also be riding in the western classes with the same horse.

This will be the first year for English pleasure riding in the Ottawa County 4-H club program. Sharon Sprague will be working with the members this summer to help them develop their English riding skills by fairtime. The members who will be riding English this year are Cindy Wirebaugh, Steve Moosmann, Monica Swope, Teckla Miller, Judy and Joann Lowien, Tina and Sue Maguire, Debbie Linger and Judy Milbrodt. Becky LaBine, reporter Mouse is victim of space flight CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP)-Fifteen-year-old Jeffrey P. Hazel's space program suffered its first casualty Thursday a month-old white mouse named Lucifer. Lucifer blazed up from a perfect launch to about 1,000 feet and was ejected on schedule from the two-foot rocket Jeffrey built as a school science project in suburban Lakewood. Unfortunately, complications developed. Lucifer's tiny parachute snagged in the top of a 70-foot tree.

By the time the Lakewood Fire Department could pluck the mouse from the tree with an 85-foot snorkel, Lucifer had succumbed to either fright or suffocation, Jeffrey said. The fire department said it responded to the call as a practice run for human rescues. Jeffrey was pleased. "It was terrific," he said. "They sent their $125,000 fire truck to rescue my 71-cent mouse." Ruth Lyons heads terminal drive CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP)-Former Avco Broadcasting Co.

Higher prices for fowl, added to the increased feed prices, will encourage many producers to sell their flocks earlier than usual, resulting in fewer eggs produced and higher egg prices in the weeks immediately ahead as well as through the summer, Baker said.

Producers were receiving only about 35 cents a dozen for all eggs at the farm. Electricity costs came to another one-half to one cent per dozen, said Baker. So variable costs for production and the price received per dozen eggs were very close for some producers.

In addition to variable costs, which include feed costs, hired labor, and electricity, the producer is faced with such fixed costs as depreciation, insurance on laying houses and equipment, and interest on investments which he has obligated himself to pay whether egg production goes on or not, Baker said. Also, fowl prices reached COLUMBUS Rising variable costs, especially feed costs, may result in higher egg prices that will last at least until fall, according to Ralph Baker, Extension poultry economist at The Ohio State University. Poultry feed is comprised mainly of corn and soybean meal. By mid-May, 1973, corn prices had risen l'A cents per pound while soybean meal was up 9V4 cents a pound over prices of one year ago, said Baker. At mid-May feed prices, the feed cost of producing a dozen eggs varied from about 24 cents a dozen for producers whose hens were near peak production and who had contracted for feed months in advance to around 33 cents per dozen for producers with hens ending their production period and who 9 Help Wanted WAITRESSES, busboys.
