Eighty gallons of apple butter has already been made for early orders, and over 200 gallons of apple butter are expected to be made in five large cooking kettles set up in the church parking lot on Ottawa Street on Saturday. The big stir will be supervised by veteran apple butter maker, Walter Brugger.

Co-chairmen in charge of the apple butter making are Mrs. Janice Minier and Mrs. Ordelle Winklea. At lunch time the ladies will also be serving corn bread, bean soup and ham sandwiches. Mrs.

Al, VanAtta is general chairman of the food committee. Homemade craft items will be on display at the craft shop and Mrs. James Piercefield is chairman of this portion of the stir. The Bake Shop will feature homemade baked goods for sale. Mrs.

Robert Reeves will be heading this committee. Mrs. Roger Damschroder is in charge of the Porch Sale which will feature antiques and other items for purchase. The members of the Methodist Youth Fellowship will have a Harvest Booth at the stir. Activities will begin at 10 a.m.

'II I "(i If I' -JuX 'i i 1 1 A OAK HARBOR The Oak Harbor Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its 100th anniversary at a reunion Saturday night with present and past members of the fire department held at the fire house. Oak Harbor Mayor Thomas F.

Palmer designated the 20th of October as Oak Harbor Fire Department Centennial Day and his proclamation presented to Fire Chief Charles D. Brown read as follows: "Designating Saturday, October 20. 1973, as Oak Harbor Fire Department Centennial Day Whereas, The Oak Harbor Fire Department observes the One Hundredth Anniversary of its founding, and Whereas. Being dedicated to fulfill the rigid requirements demanded of the members metally, physically, energetically, and Whereas, The Firefighters of Oak Harbor have contributed their time and talent in civic responsibility for the welfare, safety and health of the community, and Whereas, A reunion of present and past members is on this date taking place to acknowledge the existing fraternity, and Whereas, The townspeople wish to extend congratulations on this occasion, Now therefore, in tribute to the present and past firemen and in recognition of the Centenary Anniversary, Thomas F. Palmer, by authority vested in me by virtue of my office do herebv proclaim this day to be OAK HARBOR FIRE DEPARTMENT CENTENNIAL DAY." The American Legion, John A.

Fader Post 114, Oak Harbor, presented a "Citation of Ap- "Friends of Lakeside" of the Norwalk district were invited to attend a meeting and dinner sponsored by the Lakeside Development Fund Committee, Sunday. More than 2000 invitations were sent to the dinner which was held in Wesley Lodge, Lakeside. This meeting and others like it for other districts was called so members of the Lakeside Development Fund Committee could present the needs of Lakeside. Dr. T.F.

Alexander, vice-chairman of the. committee, explained some of the priorities for the development fund. Listed in the priorities of the development fund are the repair and rehabilitation of Hoover Auditorium, expansion of Foun-. tain Inn, improvement of youth and family facilities including construction of an all-purpose building, and serious consideration of a center for senior citizens' activities. Dr.

Allen Kestle also presented a slide program showing the four seasons of Lakeside. Dr. Alexander noted "Lakeside is unique. You have to be here to experience it." He told those at the meeting, "We are here together to solicit, your support, prayers and understanding for the progress to be made in the second hundred years of Lakeside." Dr. Alexander told the News-Herald, "To date a total of $109,000 has been received in gifts and pledges." He said of this amount, $45,000 has already been received and the contract for reroofing Hoover Auditorium would be signed this week with Sherriff-Goslin Co.

of Fremont. Cost of the project will be $16,000. Dr. Alexander also noted $80,000 has been given for the repair of the Lakeside Dock and other storm damage. This amount is in addition to the funds pledged to the development fund.

This money was given for repair of the dock and shoreline after severe storms last winter destroyed much of the 100-year old dock and caused considerable damage to the shoreline and buildings. A spokesman in the Lakeside Administration office said repairs are appointed Fire Chief as of November 1, Dale J. Thorbahn, Art Whaley, Henry "Hank" Peters and Charles D. Brown. Brown, who has served as Fire Chief since June 1957 and who has been on the department for a total of 25 years, will be resigning from the post as of November 1. Dale J. Thorbahn, Assistant Fire Chief, was appointed by Mayor Palmer to replace Chief Brown at a recent council meeting. Karl F. Gates, George W.

Fet-terman, Frank Fowler, Ter-rence R. Rudes, Allen Domokos, Harold McBee, and auxiliary members David L. Witt, Dennis Hammond and David L. Twyn-ham. The firemen will wear the patches on the arm of their uniforms above their badges.

Commander- Goldstein also presented an American Flag lapel-tie tac pin to all the firemen present in behalf of the American Past Fire Chiefs of the de almost completed on the dock. Helping to defray the estimated $90,000 cost of repairs to the dock is a $36,000 loan from the Small Business Administration. The LakA side Association has also made application for a $50,000 loan from SBA which has not yet been approved. Total repairs are expected to exceed $200,000. Members of the Lakeside Development Fund Committee are: Stanley Jeffery, chairman, Thurman Alexander, George Brown, Joseph Henderson, Allen Kestle, Paul Wachs, Wilbur Gill, treasurer, Leslie Cunningham, Harold Ewing, Carl Ling, Harold Rosser and Hurst Anderson.

In addition to the citation, the American Legion presented a "God Country" patch to members currently serving on the fire department. Men receiving the patches included: Charles D. Brown, Fire Chief; Dale J. Assistant Fire Chief; Boyd V. Wilkins, Captain; Kenneth R.

Hetrick, First Dennis W. Finke, 2nd Robert E. Lieske, engineer; Gary L. Genzman, engineer; James E. Piercefield, secretary-treasurer; Thomas M.

Witt, engineer; Robert J. Zak, James- M. Velliquette, preciation" to the fire department. Presentation of the citation was made by Post Commander Pal Goldstein to Fire Chief Charles D. Brown.

The citation reads: "This citation of appreciation is gratefully presented to the Oak Harbor Volunteer Fire Department in recognition and sincere appreciation of outstanding service and assistance which contributed to the advancement of the American Legion, programs and activities dedicated to God and country." r.
