He gave a two hour instruction in drawing, working with pastels and charcoal. Heart Sunday Set This week end local Heart Sunday volunteers will be visiting their neighbors to distribute heart saving information and to recelve Heart Fund contributions.

In advance of their arrival, you may wish to ponder the extent to which cardiovascular disease is a local problem. Consider these facts: 1. Here, as elsewhere in the nation, the heart and blood vessel diseases are responsible for about 54 per cent of all deaths. 2. In our county, like most others, about one person in nine suffers from some form of heart and circulatory disease.

3. The economic drain is staggering in terms of hospitalization costs, medical expenses, physicians' services, lost time and lost taxes. In short, this is the problem. It is everybody's problem. It is a problem that can't be ducked through indifference or by saying "let George do it.

So welcome your Heart Sunday volunteer with a smile, and a generous donation. Surprise her by contributing more than the amount you usually give. In other words: Give--so more will live! Blue Cross Pays Magruder $297,069 The impact of higher hospitalization bills was indelibly recorded by Blue Cross of Northwest Ohio in 1968 as claims payments registered 101.54 per cent of the subscriber income dollar, James H. Smith, president of Blue Cross, reported at the annual meeting of the organization's board of trustees. Blue Cross income from subscribers was $29,939,776.81 againsta claims payment total of $30,399,582.69.

Mr. Smith said Blue Cross has 573,737 subscribers in its service area of northwestern Ohio counties. Readjustments in some subscriber rates have been authorized by the State Superintendent of Insurance and are in effect. Mr. Smith said a constant surveillance is maintained by the Blue Cross research and accounting staffs to keep abreast of increasing hospital costs whichare not expected to plateau during 1969.

With Toledo hospitals putting new charges into effect as of December, 1968, and January of 1969, the average total cost per day to Cross in 1969 will be over $70 and the highest cost semi-private room is $52.00. The average total daily cost to Blue Cross for hospital care in the 12-county area was $56,35 as compared to $48.35 in 1967. Hospital costs as MARRIAGE LICENSES Arnold W. Court Rules Ohio's supreme court Wednesday disallowed a suit filed in an effort to force Erie county commissioners to apply $100,000 in state money for an airport in that county. The suit had been brought by Jack Springer, a leading opponent to the bi-county jet port, which would be located east of Port Clinton. He asked that the Erie and Ottawa Airport Authority be banned from using the 000. In its ruling, the court said that state law imposes no duty on the county to build airports or Improve existing facilities or to seek the money allocated for 1 that purpose. CRADLE ROLL CALL Tues.

charged to Blue Cross reflected a 16.54 per cent increase in 1968 as compared to the 27.2 per cent increase recorded in 1967. Mr. Smith pointed out that salaries and wages of hospital employees account for approximately 70 per cent of a hospital's operating expense. In recent years, wage adjustments were made by all major hospitals in the nation in an effort to retain personnel and as an inducement for students to pursue medical careers. During 1968, the high incidence of Blue Cross claims contributed heavily toward the deficit experienced, Mr.

Smith stated. Medical technological advances also contributed to increased hospital costs which is reflected in the claim for payment by Blue Cross. Blue Cross payments to Magruder hospital last year totaled 069.26. Fremont Memorial received Sandusky Providence Sandusky Good Samaritan and Sandusky Memorial $671,646.
